Accessing the Diagnostics Report

To navigate to the Diagnostics reports, click on the My Reports tab and lick on the Diagnostics sub-tab or card.

On the Diagnostics report landing page, you will see each Quill Diagnostic that has been assigned to your classes. Use the dropdown menu in the upper left corner of the page to select a class and only see the Quill Diagnostics assigned to that class.

To view the reports for a specific Quill Diagnostic and specific class, click the View results and recommendations button for that Quill Diagnostic.

On the left side of the subsequent page, you will see a menu of links to the following reports for this Quill Diagnostic.

Class summary report

The circle charts in the Class summary report each display a percentage of the students in a class who demonstrated the Proficient level in a skill assessed by the Quill Diagnostic.

A percentage of students who demonstrated the proficiency level of Proficient for a skill indicates the percentage of students who correctly answered all of the questions assessing the skill.

Student results report

The table in the Student results report displays the individual proficiency level that each student demonstrated for each assessed skill in the Quill Diagnostic.

Skill proficiency levels

  • Full proficiency means the student correctly answered all of the questions for the skill.

  • Partial proficiency means that the student correctly answered some (but not all) of the questions for the skill.

  • No proficiency means that the student did not correctly answer any of the questions for the skill.

Practice recommendations

Based on the results of the Quill Diagnostic, Quill will create a personalized learning plan of recommended activity packs for each student, and these activity packs can be assigned in the Practice recommendations report.

Each cell within the Practice recommendations report can have one of three appearances.

  • A white cell with an empty checkbox indicates that the corresponding student is Proficient in the corresponding skill and is not recommended to be assigned the corresponding activity pack. Please note that an activity pack that is not recommended to be assigned to a student can still be assigned to that student.

  • A green highlighted cell with a Quill icon indicates that the corresponding activity pack is recommended to be assigned to the corresponding student based on their diagnostic results.

  • A cell with a Quill icon and an Activities Completed number indicates that the activity pack has been assigned to the student.

    • If the cell has a Quill icon, the corresponding activity pack was recommended to be assigned to the corresponding student.

    • If the cell does not have a Quill icon, the corresponding activity pack was not recommended to be assigned to the student, but could still have been assigned if you had decided to do so.

Tip πŸ’‘: Use the activities assigned from the Practice recommendations report to incorporate mastery-based learning or concept level grading in your classroom. Encourage students to go for green!

Student responses

The Student responses report displays both the number and percentage of questions that each student correctly answered when completing the Quill Diagnostic. Furthermore, this report displays the number of skills for which each student was proficient out of all of the skills assessed in the Quill Diagnostic.

Furthermore, clicking the View button for a student will lead you to a page containing each response that a student submitted for each prompt in the Quill Diagnostic, whether or not that response is correct or incorrect, and the skill that was assessed by the prompt.

Tip πŸ’‘: Click here to learn more about the Student responses report.

Tip πŸ’‘: Use the Student responses report to conference with students about their performance and to show growth at the end of the year.

Questions analysis

The Questions analysis report shows you the class-wide average score for each prompt in the Quill Diagnostic. Each of these average scores falls within one of three ranges that are denoted by three colors.

  • Green indicates an average score of 80-100%.

  • Yellow indicates an average score of 60-79%.

  • Red indicates an average score of 0-59%.

Tip πŸ’‘: Click here to learn more about the Questions analysis report.

Tip πŸ’‘: You can use the Questions analysis report to identify whole-class strengths and areas for growth. For prompts with low average scores, consider practicing the relevant skills in a Do Now activity or a whole-class Quill Lesson.

Growth Diagnostic Reports

After your students complete a Baseline Diagnostic and all or most of their corresponding practice recommendation activities, you can assign a Growth Diagnostic to measure their growth in each skill.

Growth Diagnostic Class summary

The Growth Diagnostic Class summary report displays the class-wide proficiency level and growth in each of the assessed skills in the Quill Diagnostic.

In the Growth Diagnostic Class summary report, the leftmost circle chart on each card represents the percentage of students who demonstrated the proficiency level of Proficient for the respective skill during the Baseline Diagnostic, and the rightmost circle chart on each card represents the percentage of students who demonstrated the proficiency level of Proficient for the respective skill during the Growth Diagnostic.

Growth Diagnostic Student results

The Growth Diagnostic Student results report displays individual student growth in the assessed skills.

Skill proficiency levels

  • No proficiency means that the student did not correctly answer the questions for the skill in either the Baseline Diagnostic or the Growth Diagnostic.

  • Partial proficiency means that the student correctly answered some of the questions for the skill in both the Baseline Diagnostic and the Growth Diagnostic.

  • Gained Some Proficiency means that the student correctly answered some of the questions for the skill in the Baseline Diagnostic and correctly answered more (but not all) questions for the skill in the Growth Diagnostic.
