How can I search for a specific topic or writing skill in Quill's activity library?

Learn how to search for a specific topic or writing skill in Quill's activity library.

Quill offers 800+ activities that cover different topics and writing skills. If you are looking to assign activities that cover a specific topic or writing skill, navigate to Quill's activity library by clicking the Explore all activities in our activity library card on the Assign Activities page.

In the activity library, you can refine your search results using the filters on the left-hand side of the page. These filters allow you to narrow down activities based on:

  • Activity Type

  • Grade Level Range

  • Readability Level

  • CCSS Grade Level

  • ELL Activities

  • Activity Focus

  • Topics

  • Content Partners

These options make it easy to find activities that meet your specific needs.

Then, either enter a keyword in the Search for concepts, activities, and more field or use the filters on the left side of the page to filter the activities that you see.

FAQ

I heard about a Quill activity (from a colleague or a webinar), but I cannot find it. What should I do?

If you cannot find a Quill activity, our best suggestion is to attempt using the search bar to type in the name of the activity or keywords tied to the activity's name. If the activity is still unavailable, it might be unlisted; you can reach out to the Quill team at support@quill.org to learn how you can access the activity.

Where did the Concepts filter go? I can't find it on the Activity Library.

We have renamed the Concepts filter to Activity Focus. You'll see it in the same spot on the Activity Library filter sidebar. For grammar and language-skill activities, the focus names are an exact match to the old concept names, so you can use the filters in the same way as before.

What's the difference between "Learn to Write" and "Write to Learn"?

These are the two top-level categories under Activity Focus.

  • Learn to Write — language-skill activities (e.g. all Connect, Grammar, Proofreader, and Lessons activities are included…). These map exactly to what used to be called "Concepts."

  • Write to Learn — Reading for Evidence activities, where students use writing to think more deeply about a passage.

Every activity now displays its category alongside its focus value, so you'll see, e.g., "Write to Learn · Cause, Contrast & Consequence" in the activity row.

I used to filter by "Evidence-Based Writing" — where did it go?

Evidence activities are now broken into three more specific Activity Focus values, based on the conjunctions the activity teaches:

  • Cause, Contrast & Consequence — the traditional three-conjunction activities (because, but, so).

  • Cause & Contrast — two-conjunction activities (because, but).

  • Cause & Consequence — two-conjunction activities (because, so).

To find what you used to filter by as "Evidence-Based Writing," select any combination of those three under the Write to Learn activity focus.

How do I search for a specific writing skill now?

The search experience is the same — open the Activity Library, type the skill in the search field, or apply Activity Focus filters from the sidebar. Language-skill foci match the old concept names, so any saved bookmarks, links, or search habits will continue to work.

Will my old links to the Activity Library still work?

Yes. Any bookmarks or links you've saved will still take you to the right place. If you'd saved a link that filtered for "Evidence-Based Writing" activities, you'll now land on the matching activities under the new Write to Learn category.
