When should I reassign a Quill Diagnostic?
There are a few common reasons a teacher might want to reset or reassign a Quill Diagnostic so a student can take it again:
The student rushed through the Diagnostic, and the results don't reflect their actual skill level.
The student isn't ready to move on to the next stage of the Diagnostic pathway (for example, you'd like them to retake the Starter-level Growth (Post) Diagnostic before assigning the Intermediate Baseline (Pre) Diagnostic).
In all of these cases, you'll follow the same three steps below to clear the student's existing Diagnostic data and reassign the Diagnostic to them.
Before you begin 🛑
Reassigning a Quill Diagnostic will delete the student's existing data for that Diagnostic from your data reports. If you'd like to keep a record of the student's original results, please export or screenshot your data reports before following the steps below.

Steps to reassign a Quill Diagnostic
Step 1: Remove the student from the Diagnostic activity pack
First, navigate to the Manage Activities page.
Please find the activity pack containing the Quill Diagnostic you'd like to reassign. Click the Add/remove students assigned button for the activity pack containing the Quill Diagnostic.
Find and uncheck the boxes next to the names of the students to whom you'd like to reassign the Diagnostic. At the top of the page, click the Update students assigned to pack button.
This will delete the student's existing data for this Quill Diagnostic from your data reports.
Step 2: Remove the student from any related Practice Recommendation packs
If the Diagnostic previously generated any Practice Recommendation activity packs for this student, please repeat the steps above for each of those packs. This clears the student's old recommendation data so that their new Diagnostic results can generate fresh, accurate recommendations.

You can identify Practice Recommendation packs on the Manage Activities page by using the shortcut Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F) on your browser to search for the keyword format [Level] [Baseline/Growth] Recommendation, e.g., Starter Baseline Recommendation or Intermediate Growth Recommendation
Step 3: Reassign the Diagnostic to the student
Now that the student's existing data has been cleared, please navigate back to the Manage Activities page and locate the activity pack with the Quill Diagnostic.
Click the Add/remove students assigned button again.
Check the boxes next to the names of the students to whom you'd like to reassign the Diagnostic, then click the Update students assigned to pack button.
The Quill Diagnostic has now been reassigned, and your students can complete it again.

Yes. If you don't feel a student is ready to move on to the next stage of the Diagnostic pathway, you can reassign the Growth Diagnostic (or any earlier Diagnostic) using the steps above. Once they've retaken it, you can decide whether to assign the Baseline (Pre) Diagnostic of the next Diagnostic levelbased on their updated results.

Yes. Removing a student from a Diagnostic activity pack deletes their existing data for that Diagnostic from your data reports. If you'd like to keep a record of the original results, please export or screenshot your data reports before reassigning.

Yes, if the original Diagnostic generated any Practice Recommendation packs for that student. Removing them from those packs clears the old recommendation data so the new Diagnostic results can generate updated recommendations.

Yes. On the Add/remove students assigned form, you can uncheck (and later re-check) multiple students before clicking Update students assigned to pack to reset and reassign the Diagnostic to a group of students in one go.
