What should I do if Quill won't recognize a student's correct sentence?
What should I do if Quill won't recognize a student's correct sentence?

A step-by-step on troubleshooting when Quill doesn't recognize correct sentences.

Updated over a week ago

Quill provides instantaneous targeted feedback to students while they are completing our independent-practice activities. Our feedback responds to the writing concept usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and spacing of the responses that students submit.

If students receive feedback that their response is incorrect, please ask students to check their writing concept usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and spacing in their responses. Since our activities provide instantaneous targeted feedback, students' responses need to be exactly correct. If there are additional spaces at the beginning or end of a sentence or more than two spaces between words, our algorithm can get confused and mark the answer as incorrect.

If the writing concept usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and spacing used in a student's response are, in fact, correct, please email support@quill.org with the following information:

  • The student's Quill username

  • The name of the activity

  • The prompt within the activity that the student was completing

  • The response that the student was attempting to submit

Since we are an open-source nonprofit, we rely on our community of contributors to aid our algorithm in recognizing correct answers as we train it to respond to all the sentences it sees. Thank you for helping us improve Quill!
