Quill offers five unique tools to engage students in the classroom: Quill Diagnostic, Quill Connect, Quill Proofreader, Quill Grammar, and Quill Lessons. Each of the five tools serves a distinct purpose in the classroom to target distinct literacy skills.
We suggest that Quill Diagnostic be the first thing students do when starting Quill. The diagnostic tests 8 - 10 distinct skills to see where students are stand at the beginning of their Quill journey. There are currently 2 diagnostics a student can take: the Sentence Structure Diagnostic and the ELL Diagnostic. Learn more about Quill Diagnostic here.
Sentence Structure Diagnostic
The Sentence Structure Diagnostic covers eight fundamental areas of sentence structure, giving you insight into your students’ ability to effectively create both basic and advanced sentences. The concepts include Fragments, Adjectives, Adverbs, Compound and Complex Sentences.
Our ELL Diagnostic assesses your students’ knowledge of ten different concepts specifically chosen for English language learners. The concepts include Articles, Subject-Verb Agreement, and Prepositions.
Both diagnostics will create a personalized learning plan for the students based on their performance on the diagnostic.
Tools for Independent Practice
Quill Connect guides students to combine multiple ideas into a single sentence, helping them to advance from writing fragmented and run-on sentences to forming complex and well-structured sentences. Learn more about Quill Connect here.
Quill Proofreader teaches your students editing skills by having them proofread passages. Students edit passages and receive personalized exercises based on their results. Learn more about Quill Proofreader here.
Quill Grammar has over 150 activities to help your students practice basic grammar skills, from comma placement to parallel structure. Learn more about Quill Grammar here.
Tools for Guided Practice
Quill Lessons enables teachers to lead whole-class and small group writing instruction. Teachers control interactive slides that contain writing prompts, and the entire class responds to each prompt. Each Quill Lessons activity provides a lesson plan, writing prompts, discussion topics, and a follow up independent practice activity. Learn more about Quill Lessons here.
