Quill's built-in Read Aloud feature allows students to hear text read aloud directly within Quill activities. As students listen, the words are highlighted to help them follow along.
Read Aloud is available in Quill Connect, Grammar, Diagnostic, Proofreader, and Reading for Evidence. Teachers can enable the feature for all students in their classes or choose which individual students have access.

How do I enable Read Aloud for all of my students?
To enable Read Aloud by default for all students in your classes, follow these steps:
Log in to your Quill teacher account and navigate to your My Account page.
Scroll to the Student Experience section. Find the Read Aloud setting and select the checkbox next to Turn on read aloud for all students.
Once enabled, students in the classes you own will have access to Read Aloud controls when completing supported Quill activities.
How do I enable or disable Read Aloud for individual students?
You can also manage Read Aloud access for individual students through your Manage Classes page.
Log in to your Quill teacher account and navigate to Manage Classes.
Find the class containing the student whose settings you would like to update.
Locate the student and open their individual settings or select the student using the multi-student Actions menu.
Find the Read Aloud setting and turn it on or off.
You can use this setting to provide Read Aloud access to specific students without changing the default setting for your other students.
đ Note: Individual student settings override your default Read Aloud setting. This means you can enable or disable Read Aloud for a particular student regardless of the default setting selected on your My Account page.
How do students use Read Aloud?
Once Read Aloud has been enabled, students will see speaker controls next to supported text throughout their Quill activities.
Short text: Students can select the speaker icon next to directions, prompts, sentences, hints, and feedback to hear the text read aloud.
Longer passages: In Reading for Evidence and Proofreader, students can use the playback controls associated with individual sections or paragraphs to play and pause the audio.
Following along: As the text is read aloud, the corresponding words are highlighted to help students follow along.
In Proofreader, Read Aloud reads the original passage rather than the student's edited version. Students can pause the audio by clicking into the passage to highlight or edit text, then resume playback using the controls.
