Why does Quill require precise spelling, capitalization, and punctuation?
Why does Quill require precise spelling, capitalization, and punctuation?
Updated over a week ago

Precision in writing allows students' ideas to be as clear as possible, so our algorithm always encourages students to be clear and careful. More specifically, Quill's activities (Quill Grammar, Quill Connect, and Quill Reading for Evidence) will check for spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and the writing skills assessed.

This method of writing reinforces precision and is particularly important in a variety of subject areas, such as math, science, and history.

Tip 💡 Please note that a student's score for a Quill Diagnostic is exclusively based on how correctly the student demonstrates the writing skills that are assessed in the Quill Diagnostic.

So, when looking at a student's Student responses report for a Quill Diagnostic, you might notice that even though a student's response to a prompt has typos, as long as the student correctly demonstrates the writing skill assessed in the prompt, Quill marks the student's response as correct.
