Learn about the recommended progression of completing activities on Quill.

Updated over 3 months ago

While our activities are aligned with the Common Core State Standards, there is no fixed progression with which students need to complete them. Teachers have all of our activities available to them, and they may choose to assign any activity that they would like their students to complete.

However, we recommend that teachers assign the Starter Diagnostic (Baseline Pre) to their students as a starting point. Click here to learn more about how to assign a Quill Diagnostic.

Once students have completed the Starter Diagnostic (Baseline Pre), Quill will create a plan of practice recommendation activities for each student based on their performance on the Quill Diagnostic. These are located in the Practice recommendations report of the Diagnostics report in the View Reports tab.

Assigning practice recommendation activities to students provides approximately 8 to 10 weeks of practice if students complete 2 to 3 activities per week.

Once students complete all of the practice recommendation activities for the Starter Diagnostic (Baseline Pre), teachers may assign the Starter Diagnostic (Growth Post), which is the Growth Diagnostic that corresponds with the Starter Diagnostic (Baseline Pre), to measure students' growth in the writing skills assessed by the Starter Diagnostic (Baseline Pre). Click here to learn more about how to assign a Growth Diagnostic.
