Quill Reading for Evidence, our new reading and writing tool, is now available! This article will walk you through how to access Quill Reading for Evidence activities and teacher resources, and how to assign activities to students.

How to Access Quill Reading for Evidence Activities and Resources from the "Featured Activity Packs" page

Go to your "Assign Activities" tab and then select "Browse Featured Activity Packs."

From that page, select "Browse activity packs with only independent practice." This will bring you to a list of Quill's pre-made independent practice activity packs.

You'll see blue packs labeled "Evidence-Based Writing." Each of these packs contains 3-4 Quill Reading for Evidence activities on compelling nonfiction topics with a related theme, such as land restoration efforts or migration patterns.

When you click one of those blue packs, you'll be taken to the pack's overview page, which covers the following:

  • What will students be doing?

  • The activities' Common Core State Standards alignment

  • What is the theme of this pack?

  • How long will students need to complete this pack?

  • What will students be reading?

  • Where can I access additional resources for this pack?

How to Assign a Pack of Quill Reading for Evidence Activities

From a pack's overview page, you can preview any of the listed Quill Reading for Evidence activities using the preview feature to the right of each activity name. Once you're ready to assign the activities, select the green "Select Pack" button in the top right-hand corner of the page.

You'll be brought to Quill's Review and assign screen, where you can:

  • name the assignment

  • remove activities (optional)

  • add due dates (optional)

  • choose the classes and/or students to assign the pack to

Finally, select the green "Assign pack to classes" button in the top right-hand corner.

How to Access Quill Reading for Evidence Activities from the Activity Library

If you would like to view and assign individual Quill Reading for Evidence activities (in other words, create your own custom pack), you can do so from our activity library.

Go to your "Assign Activities" tab and then select "Explore all activities in our activity library."

You'll be brought to Quill's full activity library. On the top left side of the page, under "Activities," click the toggle next to "Independent: Reading Practice" and then select "Quill Reading for Evidence" from the options listed.

For each activity now listed on the right side, you can click the toggle to the right of the activity's title to see a brief description of the activity.

How to Assign Quill Reading for Evidence Activities from the Activity Library

Once you've filtered to Quill Reading for Evidence activities, you can select any of them to assign as a pack or save them to assign later.

To assign, click the green "Assign" button in the top right corner of the screen.

You'll be brought to Quill's Review and assign screen, where you can:

  • name the custom pack you've created

  • remove activities (optional)

  • add due dates (optional)

  • choose the classes and/or students to assign the pack to

To save activities to assign them later, click the flag symbol to the right of the name of each activity.
