Learn how students see their scores and time spent in their accounts and the setting that controls if students can see their scores.

Updated over 4 months ago

Tip 💡

Students will be able to see their percentage scores by default. Click here to learn how to turn off the setting that allows students to see their percentage scores.

All students are able to see the amount of time that they have spent on Quill activities and the number of Quill activities that they have completed in their Quill accounts.

Furthermore, teachers who are the owners of their classes can control a setting that determines whether or not students are able to see their percentage scores for the independent-practice activities (Quill Grammar, Quill Connect, and Quill Proofreader activities) that they have completed. Read below to learn more about these features.

How do I control the setting that allows students to see percentage scores?

Teachers who are the owners of their classes can control a setting that determines whether or not students are able to see their percentage scores for the independent-practice activities (Quill Grammar, Quill Connect, and Quill Proofreader activities) that they have completed. Please note that teachers cannot control this setting for classes for which they are co-teachers.

To see the setting that controls whether or not students are able to see their percentage scores for the independent-practice activities (Quill Grammar, Quill Connect, and Quill Proofreader activities) that they have completed, please navigate to the My Account page in the Home tab.

Then, scroll down to the Student dashboard section. Toggle the Show exact score for graded activities checkbox to control whether or not students are able to see percentage scores for the independent-practice activities (Quill Grammar, Quill Connect, and Quill Proofreader activities) that they have completed.

Tip💡

The Show exact score for graded activities checkbox will be checked by default, which means that students will be able to see their percentage scores by default. If you would not like students to see their percentage scores, uncheck the Show exact score for graded activities checkbox.

What do students see in their Quill accounts when the setting is turned on?

When your students log into their Quill accounts, they will first see the Classes page, which houses all of their Quill classes, including your Quill class and any other Quill classes in which they are rostered.

After clicking on a class on the Classes page, students will see the Classwork page for that class. At the top of the Classwork page for a class, students will see a Your progress section where they will see the number of activities that they have completed and the time that they have spent on the activities that they have completed.

Clicking the dropdown arrow in the far right of the Your progress section reveals a dropdown menu where students may choose the time period for which they see the number of activities that they have completed and the time that they have spent on the activities that they have completed. Students may see this information for Today, This week, This month, or This school year.

Below the Your progress section, students will have access to the To-do activities tab and the Completed activities tab. When students click on the Completed activities tab, since the setting that allows students to see their percentage scores is turned on, for any scored independent-practice activity (Quill Grammar, Quill Connect, and Quill Proofreader activities), in the Score field, students will see their percentage scores and the color of the score range within which their percentage scores fall.

  • Green means that students frequently demonstrated the skill being practiced in the activity while responding to the prompts and scored 83%-100% for the activity.

  • Yellow means that students sometimes demonstrated the skill being practiced while responding to the prompts and scored 32%-82% for the activity.

  • Red means that students rarely demonstrated the skill being practiced while responding to the prompts and scored 0%-31% for the activity.

Hovering over a student's percentage score will reveal a menu that shows information about the activity and the student's performance on the activity.

  • The Objectives section includes the writing skills that the student practiced while completing the activity.

  • The Published section includes the Publish date of the activity.

  • The Due section includes the Due date of the activity (if applicable).

  • The Score section includes the number and percentage of prompts to which the student submitted an optimal response out of the total number of prompts in the activity, the time and date when a student submitted the activity, and the time that the student spent completing the activity.

  • The Target Skills section includes the writing skills practiced in the activity, the number of prompts in the activity that addressed each of the writing skills practiced in the activity, the number of prompts for which the student submitted a correct response for each writing skill, and the number of prompts for which the student submitted an incorrect response for each writing skill.

  • The Why Green?/Why Yellow?/Why Red? section includes an explanation for the color of the square to the left of the percentage score for the activity.

Tip💡

Click here to learn more about how students see their activity results, which include the responses that they submitted for each prompt in an activity and the feedback that they received for each response that they submitted, for any independent-practice activity ((Quill Grammar, Quill Connect, Quill Proofreader, or Quill Reading for Evidence) that they have completed.
