Determine the method that was used to roster a class

The method used to add students to existing classes depends on the way that the class was rostered. For this reason, before adding students to an existing class on Quill, you will first need to determine the method that was used to roster the class. To find this information, navigate to the Manage Classes page.

Then, to find the method that was used to roster a class, view the copy displayed below the class name.

If you see the copy, Clever, click here to see the steps for adding new students to this class's roster.

If you see the copy, Google Classroom, click here to see the steps for adding new students to this class's roster.

If you see a class code, click here to see the steps for adding new students to this class's roster.

Add students to Google Classroom-synced classes

Tip 💡
If you'd like to import a new Google Classroom class into Quill, click here.

If you have imported a class from Google Classroom into Quill and need to update this class's roster (either add new students who have been added to the class or remove students who have been removed from the class), first, make sure that the class's roster is updated in Google Classroom.

Then, navigate to the Manage Classes page in your Quill account, click on the name of the class that you'd like to update, and click the Import Google Classroom students button. New students who have been added to the class in the Google Classroom class will be added to the class in Quill, and any students who have been removed from the Google Classroom class will be removed from the class in Quill.

Tip 💡
Google Classroom-synced students will log into Quill by navigating to this page, clicking the Log in with Google button, and entering their Google login information. Click here to access a tutorial for how students log into Quill accounts through their Google accounts.

Add students to Clever-synced classes

Tip 💡
If you'd like to import a new Clever class into Quill, click here.

If you have imported a class from Clever into Quill and need to update this class's roster (either add new students who have been added to the class or remove students who have been removed from the class), first, make sure that the class's roster is updated in Clever. Then, navigate to the Manage Classes page, click on the name of the class that you'd like to update, and click the Import Google Classroom students button. New students who have been added to the Clever class will be imported to the Quill class roster, and any students who have been removed from the Clever class will be removed from the Quill class roster.

Tip 💡
Clever-synced students will access Quill through the Clever portal or by navigating to this page, clicking the Log in with Clever button, and entering their Clever login information. Click here to access a tutorial for how students log into their Quill accounts through their Clever accounts.

Add students to manually created classes

There are 3 options to add students to manually created classes.

1. Teacher creates accounts for students

To add students to an existing manually created class, navigate to the Manage Classes page, click on the name of the class to which you would like to add students, and click the Invite students button.

In the form that appears, select the second option, Create accounts for students.

Add a new student by entering their first name and last name and clicking the Add button. After clicking the Add button for each student, Quill will automatically generate a Quill username and Quill password for each new student.

After adding all the new students, click the Next button at the bottom of the form, after which you can optionally click the Download PDF button to download a PDF that contains all your students’ Quill usernames and Quill passwords.

2. Students create their own accounts and join with a class code

Students can also join an existing class after signing up for their own Quill accounts. They can simply navigate to this page and create a Quill account with a username and password, with their Google account, or with their Clever account. Once a student has created a Quill account, they will be prompted to enter a class code to join a class.

You may find the class code for a class by navigating to the Manage Classes page and looking beneath a class name. Learn more about finding a class code here.

3. Students create their own accounts and join with a link

To obtain a link to join your class that you can share with your students, navigate to the Manage Classes page, click on the class, and click the Invite students button.

In the form that appears, select the first option, Students create their own accounts.

Click the Copy button to copy the link to join this class. Share this link with your students via email, on a learning platform, or by writing it on your whiteboard. When students navigate to this link, they will be prompted to sign up for a Quill account, and once they sign up for a Quill account, they will be automatically added to this class.

Tip 💡

To log in to their manually created accounts, students should navigate to this page and enter their username and password, click the Log in with Google button, or click the Log in with Clever button.

To view the method that a student should use to log into their Quill account, you can click the Download student log-in instructions button for the class in which the student is rostered or look in the Log-in Method field to the right of the student's name.
