Where do I find practice recommendation activities?

To find practice recommendation activities, please navigate to the Diagnostics report in the My Reports tab.

On the Diagnostics report landing page, you will see each Quill Diagnostic assigned to your classes. Use the dropdown menu in the upper left corner to select a class and only see the Quill Diagnostics assigned to that class.

To view the reports for a Quill Diagnostic assigned to a class, click the View results and recommendations button for the Quill Diagnostic.

Then, click the Practice recommendations tab in the menu on the left side of the subsequent page.

How do I read the Practice recommendations report?

After a student completes a Quill Diagnostic, Quill will create a plan of practice recommendation activity packs for each student based on their performance on the Quill Diagnostic. These practice recommendation activity packs can be assigned from the Practice recommendations report.

Each cell within the Practice recommendations report corresponds with a practice recommendation activity pack that may be assigned to a student and can have one of three appearances.

  • A white cell with an empty checkbox indicates that the corresponding student is proficient in the corresponding skill and is not recommended to be assigned the corresponding activity pack. Please note that an activity pack that is not recommended to be assigned to a student can still be assigned to that student.

  • A green cell with a Quill icon and checked checkbox indicates that the corresponding activity pack is recommended to be assigned to the corresponding student based on their performance on the Quill Diagnostic.

  • A green cell with an Activities Completed number indicates that the corresponding activity pack has been assigned to the corresponding student.

    • If the cell has a Quill icon, the corresponding activity pack was recommended to be assigned to the corresponding student.

    • If the cell does not have a Quill icon, the corresponding activity pack was not recommended to be assigned to the corresponding student.

How do I preview practice recommendation activities?

To preview an activity pack before assigning it, click the (?) icon next to the right of the name of the practice recommendation activity pack whose activities you would like to preview.

Clicking this icon will bring you to a page, where you can see a summary and the content of the activity pack. To preview a specific activity in the practice recommendation activity pack, click the Preview hyperlink to the far right of the activity's name.

How do I assign practice recommendation activities?

When ready to assign practice recommendation activities, click the green Assign activity packs button in the upper right corner of the Practice recommendations report.

When you click the Assign activity packs button, you will be prompted to choose between Staggered Release and Immediate Release. Please read more about Staggered Release and Immediate Release in the next section.

How do I stagger the release of practice recommendation activity packs?

When you click the Assign activity packs button, you will be prompted to choose between Staggered Release and Immediate Release.

The Staggered Release option assigns every recommended (checked) practice recommendation activity pack to students; however, students can only access and complete the activities in one practice recommendation activity pack at a time. They must fully complete the activities in the open practice recommendation activity pack before unlocking the next consecutive practice recommendation activity pack. The Staggered Release option allows students to complete practice recommendation activity packs aligned to a one writing skill at a time.

The Immediate Release option assigns every recommended (checked) practice recommendation activity pack to students, and students can immediately access all of the activities in every assigned practice recommendation activity pack. The Immediate Release option allows students to complete practice recommendation activity packs at their own pace, which can be a powerful time-management experience for students.

How do I keep track of students' progress through practice recommendation activities?

There are three methods to keep track of students' progress through the practice recommendation activities.

Keep track of activity completion on the Practice recommendations report

After practice recommendation activities are assigned to students, the Practice recommendations report will show the number of activities in an activity pack that a student has completed out of the total number of activities in the activity pack in a cell.

These numbers will automatically update as students complete more practice recommendation activities.

If you chose Staggered Release as your Release Method, students can only complete activities in one activity pack at a time. As soon as students complete all the activities in the open activity pack, the next consecutive activity pack will be unlocked for them.

Keep track of activity completion on the Activity Summary report

To see a more detailed report of the practice recommendation activities that students have completed, look at the Activity Summary report.

The Activity Summary report shows a student's proficiency score for an activity, a student's percentage score for an activity, the date when a student completed an activity, and the time that a student spent on an activity for each activity that a student has completed.

Use the activity pack filter in the upper left corner of the Activity Summary report to filter by a practice recommendation activity pack and to see only the activities in the activity pack on the Activity Summary report.

Keep track of activity completion and scores on the Activity Scores report

The Activity Scores report (a Quill Premium report) shows an overview of students' progress and performance for the activities that they have completed. The Activity Scores report can be downloaded as a PDF or CSV file that can be uploaded into a grading system.
