Quill Lessons are activities for instruction with whole classes or small groups of students. During Quill Lessons, teachers can model writing skills for students, guide students through discussion as they practice writing skills themselves, and assign follow-up independent-practice activities.

When your class completes a Quill Diagnostic that you assigned to them, Quill will recommend a practice recommendation activity pack of Quill Lessons associated with a writing skill to the class if more than 50% of students in the class demonstrate a need for instruction in that writing skill. You can see and assign these practice recommendation activity packs from the Practice recommendations report.

To assign these practice recommendation activity packs containing Quill Lessons from the Practice recommendations report, please navigate to the Diagnostics report in the View Reports tab.

Then, click the View results and recommendations button that corresponds with the Quill Diagnostic whose practice recommendation activity packs of Quill Lessons you would like to assign.

Then, click the Practice recommendations tab in the menu on the left side of the subsequent page.

Then, scroll to the Whole class instruction heading at the bottom of the page.

The practice recommendation activity packs of Quill Lessons that have a Quill icon and are highlighted in green are the practice recommendation activity packs that Quill has recommended based on your class's performance on the Quill Diagnostic.

To assign any one of these practice recommendation activity packs containing Quill Lessons to your students, click the check box next to the activity pack's name and click the Assign activity packs button.

To assign Quill Lessons from Quill's activity library, please navigate to the Assign Activities page and click the Explore all activities in our activity library card.

In Quill's activity library, check the Whole Class Instruction filter to only see Quill Lessons.

From there, you can search for keywords in the Search for concepts, activities, and more field, check additional filters, and preview Quill Lessons to find the Quill Lesson that you would like to assign.

Once you find a Quill Lesson you would like to assign, check the box next to its name and click the Assign button.

On the subsequent Review and assign page, name the activity pack containing this Quill Lesson in the Name the assignment section. Then, in the Review activities and pick due dates section, set a Publish date (the date that this activity pack will appear in your students' Quill accounts), optionally set a Due date, and see if you have previously assigned the Quill Lesson to any of your students. Then, in the Choose classes or students section, select the classes and students to whom you would like to assign the Quill Lesson by checking the boxes next to their names. Lastly, click the Assign pack to classes button to assign the Quill Lesson to your students.

To assign a featured (pre-made) activity pack of Quill Lessons, please navigate to the Assign Activities page and click the Browse featured activity packs card.

Then, click the Browse Whole-Class Lesson Activity Packs card.

On the subsequent page, use the Grade level range and Pack type filters to find a featured activity pack of Quill Lessons that is appropriate for your students.

When you have found a featured activity pack of Quill Lessons that you would like to assign, click the card that corresponds with the activity pack.

On the subsequent page, after reviewing and previewing the Quill Lessons in the activity pack, click on the Select pack button.

On the subsequent Review and assign page, name the activity pack containing this Quill Lesson in the Name the assignment section. Then, in the Review activities and pick due dates section, set a Publish date (the date that this activity pack will appear in your students' Quill accounts), optionally set a Due date, and see if you have previously assigned the Quill Lesson to any of your students. Then, in the Choose classes or students section, select the classes and students to whom you would like to assign the Quill Lesson by checking the boxes next to their names. Lastly, click the Assign pack to classes button to assign the Quill Lesson to your students.
