Create or import classes

You may manually create classes, import classes and students from Google Classroom, or import classes and students from Clever.

To manually create classes or import classes and students, please navigate to the My Classes page.

To learn how to import classes from Google Classroom, click here.

To learn how to import classes from Clever, click here.

Find a class code

A class code is used by students to join a class. To find a class code, please navigate to the My Classes page.

Then, look to the right of the Class code: copy below the class name.

If the class was imported from Google Classroom or Clever, you will see a (?) icon next to the Class code: copy and will need to hover over this icon to see the class code.

Tip πŸ’‘ Students who are joining a manually created class only need to use a class code when they initially join the class. Students imported from Google Classroom or Clever do not need a class code to join a class.

Rename a class

To rename a class, please navigate to the My Classes page.

Then, click on the class whose name you would like to change and click the Rename class button.

If a class is synced to Google Classroom or Clever, and you have renamed the class in Quill, you can see the name of the class in the source platform (i.e. either Google Classroom or Clever) by hovering over the Google Classroom (?) or Clever (?) copy.

Archive a class

New school year? Created a class by mistake? Classes can be archived!

To archive a Quill class, please navigate to the Active Classes page in the My Classes page.

Then, click on the class that you'd like to archive and click the Archive button for that class.

Tip πŸ’‘ Please click here for detailed information about archiving classes.

Reorder classes

To reorder your classes, please navigate to the My Classes page.

Then, click, hold, and drag the four-lined icon to the left of each class to change the order of your classes.

Add a co-teacher

To add a co-teacher to one of your classes, please navigate to the My Classes page.

Then, click on the class to which you would like to invite a co-teacher, scroll down to the Teachers section, and click the Invite co-teachers button.

Tip πŸ’‘ Please click here for detailed information about how to invite co-teachers to classes and the co-teacher feature in Quill.

Invite students to a class

The method used to add students to a class depends on the method that was used to roster the class. Please click any of the links below to see detailed instructions about how to invite students to a class depending on the method that was used to roster the class.

To determine the method that was used to roster a class, please navigate to the My Classes page.

Then, look at the copy below the name of the class.

If you see the copy, Clever, click here to see the steps for adding new students to this class's roster.

If you see the copy, Google Classroom, click here to see the steps for adding new students to this class's roster.

If you see a class code, click here to see the steps for adding new students to this class's roster.

See a student's password

If your students were manually rostered, you can see your students' passwords. To download a PDF of all of your students' usernames and passwords, please navigate to the My Classes page.

Then, click on the class in which the student is rostered, and click the Download student log-in instructions button.

Tip πŸ’‘ You can only view passwords for students who have the copy, Username, listed in their Log-in Method field.

Students who have the copy, Google or Clever, listed in their Log-in Method field have Google-synced or Clever-synced accounts. For this reason, their passwords are tied to either their Google accounts or Clever accounts and cannot be viewed in Quill.

Reset a student's password

If your students were manually rostered, you can reset your students' passwords. To reset a student's password, please navigate to the My Classes page.

Then, click on the class in which the student is rostered, click the ellipsis icon in the Actions column to the far right of the student's name, and click the Reset password option to reset the student's password to their last name with the first letter capitalized.

Tip πŸ’‘ You can only reset passwords for students who have the copy, Username, listed in their Log-in Method field.

Students who have the copy, Google or Clever, listed in their Log-in Method field have Google-synced or Clever-synced accounts. For this reason, their passwords are tied to either their Google accounts or Clever accounts and cannot be reset in Quill.

Remove a student from a class

If you would like to remove a student from a class, please navigate to the My Classes page.

Then, click on the name of the class from which you would like to remove the student and click the ellipsis icon in the Actions column to the far right of the student's name. Then, click the Remove from class option. This will remove this student from this class and remove any of this student's data from your data reports.
